Trying out new techniques

My main style of painting focuses on bright colors and realism but yesterday, I was inspired by a friend to try a "looser" approach to painting. I found this style to be much more challenging and had no idea what I was doing half the time...

"Fire Flower"

This was painted in my moleskine journal and the final result was surprisingly not disastrous as I had originally imagined. My bf thought it looked "cool" and named it "Fire Flower" so the name just stuck.

Most of the techniques used here is just wet-on-wet where you first wet the paper with your brush and then drop in paint. It's a common technique most watercolor painters use to get the colors mixed on paper or to achieve a gradient without having to stroke the paper with a brush.

Let me know your thoughts! Do you like this type of style? Do you prefer art that has concrete lines instead?
